Pictures for Progress
This program uses murals to beautify neighborhoods and to turn walls into foundations for economic and social improvement. The program works by bringing together businesses, non-profit organizations, and artists to paint murals that enrich the community, improve the financial and physical well-being of citizens, and graphically express positive visions of community, civic-engagement, and service. By providing a way for community members to participate with the development of their neighborhoods and cities, and by visually representing ideas such as generosity, compassion, and volunteerism, we hope to foster a greater sense of civic and social responsibility, a greater sense of community pride, and a greater sense of social connection. In addition to the benefits of local participation and inclusion, the murals also help to aesthetically improve public spaces and foster higher economic activity and increased pedestrian satisfaction.
